Principal's Message

Mrs. SkinnerWelcome to the 2018-2019 school year!  It is exciting to have all our students, teachers and staff members back to school ready for another positive year at The Plains Elementary!

This year we will kick of our Positive Behavior Program called, "The Bulldog Way!"  Students will continue to learn how to Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful.  Our teachers have planned many activities that help create a positive culture and create pride in our school. More information will be coming home about this program.

We are also excited to have new curricular materials in Math and in Reading.  In math, teachers K-5 will be using the program Investigations and 6th grade will be using CPM: College Preparatory Math.  For Reading grades K-6 will be transitioning to the Lucy Calkins: Reading Units of Study. This reading program will compliment the new writing program, Lucy Calkins: Writing Units of Study that we implemented in the 2017-2018 school year.

Finally, our district has committed to all students 3rd - 12th grade to be one-to-one with technology.  This means all our students 3rd - 6th grade will be issued a chromebook for the school year.  At our level, students will not be able to take the chromebooks home but will be using them in all classes for projects, classwork and assessments as determined by his/her teachers.

We are excited for all the new things happening in our building and district. We strive to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of "EVERY LEARNER, EVERY DAY!"

We wish everyone a great school year!

Ice is the most challenging weather event for the District, as buses cannot operate safely. Additionally, we need to keep in mind the many high school student drivers traveling in their own vehicles. I wanted to assure you that our team will be up very early in the morning watching the weather and road conditions and I will alert you as ...
