Voters in the Athens City School District approved today the district’s renewal levy request. The request was for the renewal of the district’s 1% earned income tax levy. The renewal represents approximately 12% of the district’s daily operating budget.
“We are so appreciative that our voters once again supported our schools and at a time when it especially matters: The ballot box,” stated Dr. Thomas Gibbs, superintendent. “Thank you to our voters and supporters for showing that they value education, our Athens schools and for reaffirming their trust and confidence in our schools.”
Passage of the renewal levy will help provide important funds for the day-to-day operations of the district’s schools, including teachers, utilities and supplies. The levy will help maintain the current quality of education and it will allow the district to continue providing important academic opportunities for students and professional development for teachers and staff.
“We will continue to keep costs low, to be good stewards of the public dollar, and to provide a good value to residents,” stated Gibbs.
