Mr.HanningWelcome to the Athens High School webpage. You will find information and news related to academics, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. Athens High School offers a wide variety of courses to help prepare students for college and careers. I'm proud of all of the accomplishments of our students. I am honored to be able to work with such outstanding students, parents, teachers, and support staff. AHS Freshman Jordan Phillips Youngest Recipient of Child of Appalachia Award J. Phillips Photo
(Article published in The Athens Messenger November 15, 2018) Fourteen-year-old Athens County resident Jordan Phillips is the 2018 recipient of the Child of Appalachia Award bestowed by The Foundation for Appalachian Ohio. The youngest recipient of the award, to date, Jordan has raised more than $100,000 to help fight breast cancer, with an emphasis on the Appalachian Ohio region.
Winter Weather Reminder Snowflake
I'm sure many of you already know that we may have our first winter weather tomorrow morning, with expectations for freezing rain and ice accumulations. Ice is the most challenging weather event for the District, as buses cannot operate safely. Additionally, we need to keep in mind the many high school student drivers traveling in their own vehicles. AHS Key Club Members Participate in Community Event AHS Key Club Hallowenn Parade 2018
Athens High School Key Club members had a great time at the Halloween celebration on October 25th at the Athens Rec Center. Club members walked in the parade and were given the high honor of judging the costumes. The event was sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Athens, which is the sponsoring club for Athens High School Key Club.
AHS Student Julia Weber Awarded 2019 Ohio Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Contest 2019 AHS HOBY Winner
The 2019 Ohio Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminar will take place June 6th through the 9th at Marietta College. The seminar gives high school sophomores from all over the state of Ohio an opportunity to interact with leaders in business, education, media, government and volunteerism over the four-day seminar.
Athens High School Students Start Healthy Snacks Program at Local School Appalachian Food Project
On September 13th the Appalachian Food Project officially started having an impact on local school children. With the delivery of apples to classrooms in The Plains Elementary, students in the school began having a healthy snack available to them whenever they need it. A week later, granola bars were also delivered.

On behalf of the Athens City School District Board of Education, Faculty and Staff, and especially our students and families, it gives me great pleasure to thank the voters of the Athens City School District for supporting our District at the polls today. This election sets the course for significant change and improvement for our district. As a result of this funding, our students will be assured state of the art 21st Century facilities for many years to come.

AHS Graduate National FFA Agriscience Fair Winner! EBA FFA Photo
Congratulations Emmy-Beck Aden (AHS Graduate, Class of 2018) on placing 1st in the Nation in the National FFA Agriscience Fair in the category of Food Science & Processing Systems! Emmy's project won the state at the spring state convention last year when she was a senior at AHS and then she moved on to nationals from there. We are so proud of you!
Beam Remote Presence Device Installed at East Elementary Beam Remote Presence Device
A Beam remote presence device has been installed at East Elementary for a student that is unable to be at school. This is a joint pilot effort between The Ohio State University and Nationwide Children's Hospital to enable remote learning for students.. The student is able to control the robot remotely in the classroom via an iPad and stay connected with school work and classmates. The student can see, hear and talk like they are in class. Hannah Bernstein Attends 25th Annual Global Youth Institute HB World Food Prize Photo
High school students from 27 U.S. states and territories and ten countries were selected to attend the 25th Annual Global Youth Institute October 17-20th in Des Moines, Iowa. Hannah Bernstein from Athens High School in Athens was among the 210 students selected to attend the prestigious three-day conference. Bernstein engaged with global leaders in science, policy, and industry to discuss the world’s most pressing challenges in hunger and poverty.
