Athens Middle School student Ryleigh Smith has earned the honor of representing the State of Ohio as a delegate at the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes Children's Congress (formerly JDRF). This July, she will travel to Washington D.C. for training and invaluable discussions with members of Congress about her journey living with Type 1 Diabetes and the critical importance of finding a cure.

On Monday, November 25, the freshman and sophomore student council officers from AHS helped the Athens Garden Club recover plants and landscaping blocks from a decorated highway traffic triangle before highway construction on the new roundabouts in The Plains at the intersection of US 33 and SR 682.

Athens FFA Team Competes in State Contests
The Athens FFA students recently traveled to the Ohio Expo Center to compete in the State Animal Management and Aquarium Management Contests, showcasing their hard work and expertise! The teams placed 14th in the State and 1st in District 10.
AHS Veterans Day Assembly 2024 Student Council Volunteers
On Friday, November 8, the AHS Student Council organized a beautiful Veterans Day assembly to honor the brave men and women who have served our country. Local veterans were graciously welcomed, enjoyed breakfast, and shared their inspiring stories with the students and staff. The assembly featured heartfelt poems, patriotic music performed by the band and choir, and a poignant account by Associate Superintendent Mr. Chad Springer about the true meaning of being a veteran.

AMS History Field Day
2024 marks the 250th anniversary of Lord Dunmore's War which took place in Southeastern Ohio between the Virginia Militia and the Shawnee and Mingo people of Ohio. The students rotated through four stations that taught about life in the Virginia militia with re-enactors presenting and four stations learning about Shawnee life in Ohio from members of the Shawnee nation. Ohio Humanities, the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio, and Jessica Cyders of the Southeast Ohio History Center created a fantastic history field day for the 8th grade students of Athens Middle School.
