A LITTLE ABOUT ME!

I am an Illinois girl permanently living in Southeast Ohio and loving it. I graduated from Ohio University in 2012 and had the great privilege of working at Nelsonville-York Elementary for the last several years. My husband, Alex, and I bought a "Fixer Upper" this summer in Athens and decided it was time I become a Bulldog. I will be teaching 5th grade ELA this year. I already know that I will fall in love with so many as I get to know all of the students in my classroom as well as around the building. I truly enjoy my job. It is a great privilege that I get to do what I love and love what I do! Here is to a great year in 5th grade at The Plains Elementary!

ELA: We will be using writers workshop this year. This means that all of my students will be doing a lot of writing about things that interest them and doing a great deal of growing as writers and thinkers. I can not wait to see what stories we all come up with. We will celebrate the great writing that takes place regularly. I will also be running a reading workshop this year in my classroom. A readers workshop gives students a great deal of time to practice reading and using skills and strategies that we learn together. During readers workshop students will be reading books that they choose and that interest them. For both of these workshops students will have a special notebook will they will keep their work. These notebooks will also be a place that growth will be measured and grades logged. 

• Infinite Campus - I try and make sure my grade book is updated every week. Make sure you have the APP so you can see how your child is doing academically too!
• Newsletters - These will be sent home as a paper copy or via Infinite Campus Messenger. If you are note receiving these please make sure to send me (or someone else) updated email addresses for you.
• Email - This will only go out as needed only. However, I welcome emails from parents if anything ever comes up.
• Notebooks - These will be updated weekly with grades and progress.
• Report Cards - Report cards are given every 9 weeks. 
• Progress Updates - I try to make sure in between report cards that grade slips are sent home with updated academic and behavior information.
• Parent Letters - These are sent out as needed only. Please feel free to send me notes about any questions or concerns you might have throughout the year.
