If one was looking at the beginning of the MS Archery season it was going to take a sports miracle for the team to qualify for the National Tournament this year. Losing two National Champions to the HS team and recruiting EIGHT rookie archers wasn't looking good for advancing any farther than the state tournament this season.
But....the underdog MS team showed their moxy by coming out of the gate strong at their first league tournament of the season with a respectable team score that was at least a starting point. An incredible 50 point improvement at the teams next tournament and a team score of 3197 put them within reach of making the cut for the Nationals this year. Headed into the state tournament the team couldn't lose any ground and had to reach their goal of 3200 pts, if someone was having a bad day somebody else had to pick it up.
Led by three very determined 8th graders, (Alyssa North 282 Jonathan Bruch 281, and Suzanne Russel 280) the team met their goal and improved by another 10 points to earn a 3207, which qualifies the team for the 2016 NASP National Tournament and placed the team 5th in the State. Alyssa North placed 7th in the state, Jonathan Bruch was 9th in the State, and Suzanne Russell was 12th in the State.
