Eight students from West Elementary School competed at the District 12 Science Fair on March 18th: Emma Beasley, Julia Dick, Luca Gagliano, Mirage Giri, Greta Gunderson, Jasper Harter-Hughes and Emma Hartman, who are all in sixth grade, and Andrew Meek, a fifth-grader.
Luca Gagliano and Emma Beasley earned Superior ratings, making them eligible to represent District 12 at the State Science Day in May. Emma Beasley earned an individual award by the Ohio University Physics Department and the Broadcom Masters Fair award. Luca Gagliano was awarded a Gold Medal by the Behavioral Science Department at Ohio University, as well as the American Psychological Association Award, the Broadcom Masters Fair award, and the Ohio Tuition Trust Alternate Award (a $250 scholarship). Elementary, middle and high schools from seven counties competed at the District 12 science fair. The eight West students earned the right to compete by receiving a Superior rating at the school science fair in November. Students had a variety of experiments demonstrating the scientific process.
