A lot has been happening at AMS to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, and we look forward to resuming school this fall. In an effort to prepare for the many possibilities for the upcoming year, we have created a schedule which can be utilized in an online format, a hybrid in person face-to-face format, or in a traditional five day a week school environment. Once we have the registration data from final forms regarding students who choose a year-long online option, we will finalize our master schedule and make individual student schedules available through Infinite Campus. The school day will have six periods including lunch. Every student will have Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and one elective. World Language takes the place of an elective for those who requested it. Students without a World Language class will have a rotation of PE, Art, Music, and Personal Development and Wellness. As of now, students in band will be provided instruction from 2:00 to 3:00 each day while we are online. The math and language arts curricula provide many options to meet student needs and to encourage challenging learning opportunities for all levels of students within one period, so we will be heterogeneously grouped in those areas for whole group instruction and will have breakout sessions for intervention and enrichment designed to meet the needs of specific students.
The time schedule for online will be as follows:
7:30-8:00Gather your materials for the day
8:00-9:00 1st Period
9:00-10:00 2nd Period
10:00-11:00 3rd Period
11:00-12:00 4th Period (Lunch)
12:00-1:00 5th Period
1:00-2:00 6th Period
2:00-3:00 Advisory Time/Band
It should be noted that this schedule is adjusted for online instruction only. An in-building schedule would look slightly different.
During your child’s virtual school day, there will be both synchronous lessons (face-to-face through an online platform) and asynchronous lessons (learning activities that can be completed independently). At the beginning of each week, students will be provided more specific information regarding times for face-to-face meetings and other obligations so families can plan more specifically for the week. We understand and recognize that virtual learning poses many challenges for families; we will do our best to provide flexibility and support.
Our staff members will be having two weeks of professional development beginning August 17th. We will be focusing on best practices for online teaching, the use of our new learning management system, Canvas, and the use of our face-to-face platform, Zoom. Staff will also receive implicit bias training and learn more about differentiation and how it relates to virtual instruction.
In the coming weeks, you will be receiving additional information about technology and textbook pick up, virtual orientation, and how to access your child’s specific schedule. In the meantime, please work with your child to secure a comfortable learning space that limits distractions and disruptions in order to help make learning enjoyable and meaningful.
From midnight tonight through Sunday at 11:59 pm the Sales Tax Holiday waives sales tax on in-store and online shopping for school supplies. The following list of supplies, are things your child will need at home for remote learning:
