AHS Senior Graduation Information 2022

On Saturday, May 28th, 2022, we will graduate the class of 2022. This class has had four wonderful years at Athens High School and the administration is proud of their accomplishments. This mailing is designed to inform you and your senior of the expectations we have as graduation approaches. Please take note of the deadlines and expectations outlined in the following pages and discuss these requirements with your soon-to-be graduate.

Requirements for Commencement Participation

• Course Work

  • All senior course work, tests, and incomplete work must be completed and recorded in the teacher’s gradebook by 2:35 pm on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022. This is the last day of scheduled class for the seniors.

  • Note: To ensure accuracy of the name list in the graduation program, independent study work should be completed and recorded by Thursday, May 20th, 2022.

• Fines and Fees

  • All textbooks must be returned or paid for by Wednesday, May 25th, 2022.

  • All discipline assignments must be served by Wednesday, May 25th, 2022.

  • All District-issued Chromebooks must be returned or paid for by Wednesday, May 25th, 2022.

Rehearsal Participation 

Commencement Rehearsal is Friday, May 27th, 2022, 9:00 am at the Joe Burrow Stadium

• All seniors must attend rehearsal to participate in graduation ceremonies. All seniors are expected to be on time and remain for the entire rehearsal (approximately 2.0 hours). Late arriving seniors will be placed at the end of the processional line.

• Masks are optional

• Note: If you are employed, you must make arrangements in advance to attend the entire rehearsal.

Commencement

Athens High School Commencement Ceremonies, Saturday, May 28th, 2022, 11:00 am, Joe Burrow Stadium

There are no restrictions on the number of guests that may attend the commencement ceremony.

Masking is optional.

• All Seniors must be at the high school by 9:30 am to prepare for the processional and will meet in the auditorium prior to the ceremony.

• Required Commencement Attire

  • Students participating in commencement must wear acceptable attire!!!

    • Should wear dark colored clothing under their dark green gowns and dark colored dress shoes that are suitable for street wear. No high heels due to the ceremony being held on the field at the stadium.

      • This is a formal occasion. Ties, dress shirts, dress pants, dark socks, dark colored dresses are recommended.

      • No bandanas, hats, t-shirts, etc…

• NOTE: Students dressed inappropriately or without a cap, gown, and spirit hood will NOT be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony! No decorations of the cap are permitted.

Inclement Weather for Commencement Ceremonies

• Since we are having the commencement ceremony outdoors, inclement weather is a concern. The administration is providing two possible back-up dates and times for the commencement ceremony. Any changes to the date/time of the ceremony would be communicated 72 hours in advance.

  • Primary backup date/time - Friday May 27th at 7:00 pm (Graduation would be under the lights if needed)

  • Secondary backup date/time - Sunday May 29th at 11:00 am 

• If there is inclement weather forecasted for the duration of graduation week/weekend, we will move graduation indoors as a last resort. If we are forced to do this, we would need to limit attendance.

Additional Items and Information as Graduation Approaches

Final Transcripts

• Please complete the online form, Senior Future Plans, available on the Guidance website to notify the school where the final transcript should be sent. An alternative would be from Mrs. Powell when she meets with Senior English classes during the school day.

Extra-Curricular Activities Participation

• Seniors involved in an extracurricular activity are expected to follow all school rules. This pertains to all activities including prom. Any senior found to be in violation of school rules, conduct, or extra-curricular guidelines may be denied participation in the commencement ceremony.

Junior/Senior Prom

• We are having a junior/senior prom this year on Saturday, April 9th from 8:00 - 11:00 pm. Tickets will go on sale on Monday April 4th.  They are $20 each.

• We will have prom in the AHS cafeteria/atrium at the high school.

• Additional expectations for the dance will be communicated over the next two weeks.
