Five students from Athens Middle School participated in the State Science Day in May. The State Science Day was a virtual fair, and the students each submitted a video to be judged. Students who entered included Emerson Crowl, Helen Liu, and Eli McCarthy (7th graders) and Joonwoo Park and Xinrui Han (8th graders). Emerson Crowl achieved a superior rating, and was also awarded the Ohio Environmental Health Association Award for his project on composting, “The Biodegradation Race.” Joonwoo Park also achieved a superior rating for his project entitled “Utilizing Food Waste to Promote Algae Biofuel Production,” and he was awarded the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Environmental Protection Research, as well as the Milt Austin Aquatic Science Award.
